Hello Kitty

Hello Kitty makes me nostalgic. She reminds me of everything cute and coveted when I was a kid. She also reminds me of my childhood days spent at the mall (I grew up in a big city with lots of supermalls). I used to know all her character friends and could say Kerokerokeroppi three times really fast without stuttering. I used to go into the Hello Kitty stores (their names vary from place to place) and ogle at all the cute stuff in them. I used to ogle at the Hello Kitty school supplies that my classmates had. And I still have the occasional Hello Kitty item here and there.

My favorite Hello Kitty item was this small tin briefcase-like box. I saw a pink Sanrio one in the store when I was 12 and didn't have enough money to get it. Then when I came into a windfall of money (belated birthday present), my sister pointed out this similar type of tin box with a red Hello Kitty design. The Sanrio one was gone. I bought the Hello Kitty one in a heartbeat. It really wasn't that useful... it was unwieldy for carrying cash, coins in it rattled too loudly, and it can't carry anything else other than a handkerchief (yes, I had hankies whenever I went out, back then). But I loved it. Now I'm not sure where that tin box is. It's probably at my parents' house among my childhood stuff, all rusty with little dents here and there. I wonder if I left anything inside it.
